Are you passionate about exploring the outdoors and finding adventure? Do you want to develop your skills to be independent in the mountains? If so, this weekend will be perfect for you. We will be learning a range of skills from camping, camp craft, planning and navigation to cooking on a stove and picking the best route in the mountains. Friday This weekend begins on Friday evening, we'll meet at a campsite and get to know each other around a fire. We'll set up camp and give you lots of tips and tricks to make sure you're comfortable and cosy in your tent. Saturday Saturday will look at how to pack an expedition rucksack, what to take with us, what and how to cook, navigation, making a route card and planning. We will then be off for our exciting wild camp in a remote part of the Lake District. Sunday Sunday we will pack up our camp and navigate out of the mountains using all the skills we've learnt. We should be back at the cars by lunchtime, ready to sort out our kit and head home. What additional things will we be learning? What food to take with you/how to cook/cooking on a stove How to make you water safe to drink when out How to bathroom outside and deal with peeing, pooing periods Picking a good camp spot - what do you need to consider? Environmental considerations and responsibility Problem solving - what do we do when things don't go to plan? What do I need to bring? Hat Gloves (minimum 2 pairs) 3 x base layers 2 x fleeces Waterproof jacket Waterproof trousers Walking boots Head torch (and spare batteries) Rucksack (minimum 50L) Re-useable1 litre water bottle Overnight bag (pajamas, comfortable warm indoor clothes) Toiletries Personal medication Sleeping bag What's included? (Welcome to bring your own) Tent Sleeping mat Maps Compass Hot drinks Saturday breakfast & dinner Sunday breakfast Camping fees for the first night 2024 Dates 10th to 12th May 4th to 6th October We will be starting and ending in the Langdale Valley, Lake District. If you don't have any of the above, please email in advance to borrow any equipment. Otherwise the nearest train station is Oxenholme The Lake District (near Kendal), lift sharing can be arranged.
