Who is this for? A perfect day for folks to learn some new skills, get confident with map reading and being outdoors. This is a two day course, starting from scratch and will be led by Suze Hill. What we will be learning? We will : - Begin to understand the symbols on the map and what they mean - Look at different strategies for effective map reading - Build your confidence (skill and confidence go hand in hand) - Measuring distances on a map - Calculate how long it takes to walk distances - Make a route card to follow for the day - As well as the above we will look at how we can use a compass to navigate - Start to understand and interpret contour lines - Find strategies to relocate What do I need to bring? A rucksack Warm layers (and a spare in your bag) Waterproof top and bottom Boots Gloves and a warm hat Minimum 1 litre of water, and/or hot drink in a flask for cold days. Food - packed lunch Bring your own map and compass (if you have one) Prayer mat and water for wudhu (if required) Please email if you'd like to borrow anything Date 23rd and 24th September 2023 Location is Edale car park (the largest one on the road next to the station S33 7ZP) There is a train station next to the car park (2 minute walk)
