These weekend courses are in the Lake District and have a community feel, are focussed on fun, adventure and learning skills in a safe and supportive environment.  This course is residential in a quiet and remote part of the Lake District. On these courses we will explore the following topics that will promote independence, skills and confidence in the hills:

  • What to wear (the good, the bad and the ugly)

  • What to take with you

  • Planning and route choices

  • How to deal with emergencies and problems

  • The weather

  • Peeing, pooing and perioding

  • What we can (and will) do to protect and preserve the natural environment

Camping weekend 

Would you like to learn the ins and outs of camping (in Grizedale campsite) before you explore for yourself or take friends or family away.  As well as the above, on this weekend we will learn:

  • How to put up and take down a set

  • Select good spots to put your tent up

  • How to keep yourself warm and comfortable

  • Camp cooking skills (on a stove)

  • What to wear

  • What to pack in your rucksack 

  • How to pack a rucksack

  • What food is good to eat/take with you

  • What to do with the rubbish

  • Be more efficient/tricks of the trade

Included on this weekend is two nights in a tent, with the use of a yurt to eat in, socialise, and have an indoor space to learn in. Dinner and breakfast will be provided on both nights and mornings (and hot drinks) - the weekend will require some hands on help.  The food will be vegetarian that can easily be vegan, gluten free or dairy free.   The weekend will be hands on, with everybody getting involved.  If you can get yourself to Oxenholme train station we can help get you to the campsite.

What do I need to bring?

  • Sleeping bag (3 season - it needs to go down to min -3 comfort on the label) 

  • Mug, spoon and bowl

  • Reusable water bottle 

  • Flask

  • Hat and gloves

  • Warm layers

  • Waterproofs

  • Walking boots

  • Personal medication and toiletries 

Mountain skills course in a bunk barn

Included on this weekend is two nights accommodation in a bunk barn with simple facilities (email for more information).  Dinner and breakfast will be provided on both nights and mornings (and hot drinks) - the weekend will require some hands on help.  The food will be vegetarian that can easily be vegan, gluten free or dairy free.  Maps and compasses will be provided for the duration of the weekend.  

Not included are lunches and snacks
